Yesterday marked the official debut of Hedi Slimane at Yves Saint Laurent, you may have read my post the other day about his vision at the company and how it has affected YSL so far (including that name change!) but the 1st of October was the date of release for his first collection for the world to see!
Critics have been commenting left, right and center, giving their opinion on the SS13 offerings:
"The initial reaction, among those who attended the show, was that he had gone in a direction that is very Saint Laurent. Now that might sound obvious, but it is meaningful." - Eric Wilson (NY Times)
And I agree, the collection was very YSL, and smartest of all Slimane left the viewers questioning the concepts, thinking carefully about the designs and speculating amongst themselves: just like a work of art.
This collection was made for women who love black, no matter how much you try to avoid it black is THE eternal colour; slimming, flattering, alluring, mysterious, and the designs were very much 70's, LA, rock-star with materials like leather and feathers being used, and outfits topped off with dramatic floaty chiffon capes and floppy black sun hats. I love what Slimane has come up with and I can't wait to see more.
