Winter Coat Dilemma

I am a nightmare when it comes to coats.
I find it really difficult to choose something because I know what I like but I am tall (5'9") and don't like bulky coats but want something that is just below the bum in length to really keep me warm this winter. I no longer love my ASOS Aztec parker so it is time to move on!
Here are a few coats on my wish/shopping list!

Cinched in waist and toasty-looking quilting:
Quilt and Melton jacket by Warehouse £80.00 @ ASOS

Big trend for AW12:
Military Pea Coat £75.00 @ ASOS

Comfy, warm and smart:
Biker Detail Coat by Oasis £100.00 @ ASOS

You can never go wrong with a:
Classic Mac in Camel (also available in Black) £55.00 @ ASOS

My dream coat this winter:
Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Wool-blend Coat £610.00 @ Net a Porter

Daphne Groeneveld in VOGUE Japan

My favourite model Daphne Groeneveld is looking fabulous in the new shots for Vogue Japan's November 2012 issue by Mark Segal.
For the feature entitled "The Secret Chatter of Golden Monkeys", Mark Segal and the team have styled and shot some opulent gowns, glamourous ensembles and feminine delights including dresses by Dolce and Gabanna and Alexander McQueen. I love how glamourous and luxuriously foreign asian style and fashion is; and the effect it is having on us as Asian countries begin to have more and more influence over the Western world (just think about Psy's Gangnam Style reaching mid-week number 1 here in the UK, and K-Pop stars modelling for Burberry...!)
Daphne's bubblegum-coloured make-up here is soft and subtle and the whole shoot is very dreamy, with cotton candy-esque hair and superimposed mist...

Eldora False Lash Review

eldora.co.uk handmade false lashes* come in an incredibly huge range, from neon to diamante, feather to synthetic, and natural-looking to super long, show-stopping lashes!
My false lashes are number H147, made of sterilised human hair and are around half an inch long at the longest point and thicker towards the outer edges giving a gradient effect. I wear false lashes a lot; on days when I want to feel glamourous and on nights out to really make my eyes stand out (I think they're one of my best features!) but I usually only wear natural-looking, brown-tinted lashes to enhance my natural eyelashes.
These, however, are the perfect mix between natural and show-stopping.

Glue is included in the pack (which is great because it's so frustrating when you buy a pair of false lashes and get home to realise they don't include glue) and I didn't think it would be particularly good because of the basic tube packaging but it is that pearlescent glue that, if left for a few minutes before application, holds fast!

As you can see they made a BIG difference to my eye shape and definitely made them look larger. In these photos I am just wearing foundation (no mascara or eyeliner which would further enhance the look of my eyes)! The only thing that is "wrong" with them is that, for me, I will need to cut them both down a little on the inner edge so they aren't too long because they did unstick slightly at that point! Other than that these lashes are perfect and at only £4.50 a pair I would definitely buy these and am already looking at the website to see if there are any more I love the look of!

What do you think of these lashes?! Would you try them? Leave me a comment below!

You have probably heard by now that Yves Saint Laurent's ready-to-wear collection has once again become Saint Laurent Paris, a name it bore in the days before Yves wanted to dissociate himself from the clientele SLP brought and embrace a new generation with YSL.
The debut show of this new collection is drawing ever closer, and is due to happen on October 1st. Not only is it the first show from the new Saint Laurent but it is also the first show since Hedi Slimane took over as creative director in March 2012 and it has been highly anticipated to say the least.
I'm super excited to see what the SS13 collection will be like!
I've been keeping up to date with YSL/SLP updates with one of my favourite blogs which I thoroughly recommend if you are really interested in fashion and fashion law!

Nina Dobrev in The Perks of Being a Wallflower

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky was one of my favourite books growing up, and I never would have imagined it would be made in to a film, but it has and the it's due to be released in just under a weeks time here in the UK, on the 3rd of October. I was really excited to see Nina Dobrev at the Hollywood premiere wearing a red, lacey Reem Acra gown: she looked great and I didn't know she was in the film! I think she's the perfect petite beauty and I'm looking forward to seeing her in something other than The Vampire Diaries
Check out Emma Watson, who wore an amazing Giorgio Armani halterneck with lace tiers and a bit of bling, and Nina Dobrev in their wonderful premiere outfits.

I'm really excited to see what the movie will be like and whether it will stay true to the book, which you would think it would since the original author, Chbosky, had complete control over the movie as screenplay writer and director...!
Have you read the book? Are you going to go and see the movie? What do you think of Emma and Nina's outfits? :)

Barts Knitwear: The Art of Keeping Warm

Another great company I've found online recently are Barts; a brand started by Bart Koene and originating from Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, that prides itself on being "the best (rather than) the biggest".
They offer winter accessories from colourful and fashionable heavy-knit beanies to 'fur paws' (amazing furry gloves to you a me)! From humble beginnings selling beach shorts from a bamboo pole in St Tropez in 1986 to a worldwide company selling mens, womens and childrens collections in 2012.
Autumn seems to have suddenly pounced upon us here in England and the new Barts Winter collection is making me dream of furry, fluffy jackets and hats, and knitted gloves to keep me toasty in what is looking to be a sub-zero season! Along with leather totes and quilted satchels, Barts makes knitwear and staying warm this winter high-fashion and catwalk worthy!

MFW Favourites SS13

Milan Fashion Week came and went in a blur, just as Fashion Month is! As I am still writing for The Divine Addiction I'm just going to share with you my top two personal favourite shows from MFW!
What do you think? What were your favourites?

Gianfranco Ferre's SS13 collection continued one of the two main themes/ideas that seemed to me to be offered at MFW; one is bright, colourful and fairly unusual (just take a look at the Dolce & Gabanna collection below!) and the other is moodier, more wearable and more neutral. Guess which Ferre's were! Think drapey and geometric shapes and monochromatic colour. I love the delicate laurel wreath belts on the last two dresses!

My ultimate favourite has to be Dolce and Gabanna's SS13 offerings! Sicily-inspired stripes and artworks splashed across dresses, woven basket skirts and tactile materials. I just love the bright colours and the happy effect that the total foreign influence has upon me as a viewer, and would have over me as a wearer of these bold designs, it all kind of reminds me of Frieda Kahlo!

My Second Piece for The Divine Addiction

If you're a regular reader you may already know that I have recently begun freelancing as a fashion consultant for The Divine Addiction, an LA-based luxury lifestyle magazine published by Lisa Vanderpump and run and edited by her daughter Pandora Sabo
This is just so exciting for me because I get to do what I love to do for a site/magazine that is already popular and is going to go from strength to strength with the amazing range of posts from cocktail recipes, and lifestyle posts, to deciphering tricky dress codes!

Getting to the point, here is the link for my second article reviewing the SS13 Diane Von Furstenberg collection shown at New York Fashion week! Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

What Do I Wear

A few months ago I came across What Do I Wear and since then my Tumblr dashboard has been flooded with amazing street style photos, outfits of the day, fashions, styles and trends.
I love the mixture of photos that What Do I Wear post, from close-ups of key accessories to full outfits and Polyvore-style boards, it really inspires me on days when I just don't know what to wear or buy.
Take a look at the Tumblr here: what-do-i-wear.tumblr.com/.
Here's some inspiration from What Do I Wear's most recent posts.

Trend: Transparent!

Proving that it is what's on the inside that really counts, transparent clutches and bags have been everywhere recently.
From the classic Cambridge Satchel Company style with colourful accents, super chic Hermes and Chanel bags to simple hard plastic boxes these bags are perfect for SS13: just make sure that what's in your bag goes with your outfit...! You could even "DIY" with a thick plastic wallet.
I am especially loving the new SS13 transparent Furla Candy bags (last image)!

LFW Street Style

I've never really written about men's fashion and style but Jessica Brown, a brilliant and talented young photographer who I featured here last month, took some photos for me at London Fashion Week, and as I am writing about the female fashionistas for an article on The Divine Addiction I decided to use some of my favourite male street style photos here on LIQUORICE.

I often find that men end up looking a bit feminine whilst attempting to add fashion elements, such as accessories and bags, that are fairly unusual in 'everyday' men's fashion. I love this look, along with the following, so much because these fashionable guys have found the perfect balance for a truly wearable style.

I love the combination of embellishments, linear stripes and wavy lines in this guys coat, shirt and hat; creating contrast but keeping it fairly neutral with dark colours, and just a splash of blue and yellow.

Accessorising - guys...it's okay to get the jewellery out! Make sure it's bold and chunky but fairly neutral (silvers, blacks and golds) to keep it masculine.

But of course the best accessory is a cute girl with style as good as your own!

Elegant and classic men's style, with a paisley tie and gold accent sunglasses...a seriously cool look.

Taking completely different style inspiration this guy is working a popular cross shirt and a cool and classic leather jacket with more feminine accessories - gloves, gold rings and a patent leather bag.

Another leather jacket, but this time using mixed materials, colour and print. Leopard is seriously wild and worn well can be sophisticated too.

These looks work, not only because they have been styled by guys who obviously care about their appearance and put thought in to accessorising and co-ordinating, but because they have the blatant charisma and passion to be able to pull off such additions to an outfit!
Hell yeah to fashionable men!
